Raising a large number of animals in a define space helps farmers take advantage of economies of scale, which means as production increases the cost per unit lowers. By producing food as efficiently as possible, farmers can generate enough profit to stay in business. This also means food can be grown at lower prices, which decreases the prices for consumers.

Farmer’s number one priority is to raise healthy animals

That means investing in research to determine the optimal number of animals to raise in a defined space. Farmers know that overcrowding animals detrimental to animal’s health and well-being That’s why they work with experts to ensure that the animals have easy access to feed, and have room to move around freely, lie down and socialize with other animals. There is on-going research into how farmers can optimize an animal’s environment to continually improve animal welfare.
