What is a carbon sequestration and what does this have to do with farming?

What is a carbon sink?

If the rate of carbon input exceeds the rate of loss, carbon accumulates and this is called a carbon sink. There are many ways farmers can help build carbon sinks such as adopting conservation tillage, adding animal manures to soil, planting legumes, planting trees, rotational grazing and more.

Grasslands matter too!

Pasturelands remove greenhouse gases from the air and sequester them in soil. Land used for grazing cattle in Canada is currently storing about 1.5 billion tonnes of carbon.
